Joshua Deomampo Villena was born on 8th of August 1999 and is a Filipino of Spanish-Italian descent. He comes from Lemery, Batangas and currently resides in Paranaque City. He is currently finishing his Bachelor’s Degree in Animation at iACADEMY Makati.
Having been raised in a family of artists starting with his grandfather, Joshua started drawing at age of five. By the age of eight, he joined art competitions and his father mentored him, teaching him some techniques.
At the age of 10, he already bagged championships in national art competitions.
Pursuing his passion, he enrolled in visual arts at the Batangas Province High School for Culture and Arts. The course is a special program funded by the government for selected artists from Batanggas. There, he enhanced his skill and talent in art and gave him a headstart in his career.
At the age of 19, Joshua joined Transwing Art Gallery exhibitions in and outside of the Philippines.
Charcoal, color pencils, graphite, acrylic and oil paints are some of the medium he prefers. He mainly focuses on portraitures, taking inspiration from Eloy Morales, Robin Eley and Gottfried Helnwein.
It was a long journey for him to find his signature art style, and he's happy to have started in art early.
"For me, a painting is more than a display on a wall or in an exhibit, it's a visual figure of the artist’s expression of his thoughts about the world and society, a product of his imagination wanting to speak for himself and for the people of the world", says Joshua.
