Dr. Jose Rizal’s affection for Germany and its people is evident during his many travels in his “scientific mother country.” For more than a year, he moved from city to city, to admire the beauty of the cities along the banks of the Rhine and immersing in many intellectual pursuits in other parts of the country. His famous Novel NOLI ME TANGERE was worked on in Heidelberg and Wilhelmsfeld and finally went to the press in Berlin in Germany. Other art he created during his stay in Germany was the poem A LAS FLORES DE HEIDELBERG and many illustrations, for example for the son of Pastor Ullmer.

The map of Rizal's travel was published by the Embassy of the Philippines in Germany and reflects all cities he passed. The main cities where as well plaques of Rizal were installed are Heidelberg, Wilhelmsfeld and Berlin, although as well in Stuttgart a plaque was installed.
