Paco Gorospe’s art studio in Mabini Street gave him a vantage point from which to observe the streets and people going about their everyday lives. It was also within walking distance from the market where different vendors plied their wares including fruits. Amidst the hustle and bustle, you can see local colour depicted in all their glory. In the background are people doing their marketing, and vendors arranging their merchandise. That is why Paco Gorospe’s paintings were easily snapped up by tourists, it gave them a souvenir of their experience during their visit to the Philippines. Mostly impressions of a happy, friendly environment which is a far cry from the cold, impersonal western world.
